Painted Binga Baskets

Painted Binga Basketare handwoven in the Binga area of Zimbabwe, made from hard vine and llala palm, and then trucked down to Cape Town.

A small basket can take up to three days to weave. The Binga basket is traditionally a grain winnowing basket. Once we receive these amazing baskets, we choose the specific designs to suite certain colours and our much valued Shiellah, also from Zim, then paints them to make them more contemporary and appealing to today’s market. The painting takes hours.
The painted Binga Basket makes an extremely eye catching feature to a wall, most attractive in larger odd numbered groups if the space is vast. Should the space be small, arranging them in a group of 3 is very effective too. It’s such a great way to add texture, colour, and depth to a wall, not to mention a unique and bespoke piece of artwork to a space.
